MACHINERY RELOCATION OF AN INJECTION MOULDING MACHINE
The facts:
- Task: dismantling of an injection moulding machine, with reassembly of the machine by the customer
- Area of operation: Germany and Africa
- Duration: 3 weekends / during ongoing production
- Crew size: 6 fitters
- Equipment required: 4 t forklift, 50 t overhead crane, 100 t lifting gantry, hoists, hand tools
- Working environment: production hall with several injection moulding machines (live operation)
- Tonnage / material: approx. 500 t of material, machine parts, machine guarding, removal robot, conveyor belts
THE CHALLENGE IN THIS PROJECT WAS THE EXTREME TONNAGE OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS
The heaviest part, the moving platen, weighed 95 tonnes on its own. In addition to dismantling the machine, our task was to coordinate the other trades.
The machine stood in the middle of the production hall and had to be broken down into individual parts for transport. Ongoing operations and the set-up work on the other injection moulding machines could not be disrupted. Excellent coordination with the customer and a well-structured schedule were an immense advantage here!
THE NECESSARY HELP CAME FROM THE NETHERLANDS
The crew was able to lift many machine parts out of the hall with the overhead cranes and the forklift. For the machine bed and the platens, we brought in help from Dutch colleagues.
They have sufficiently large lifting equipment in the load range of 100 t and above. Once all parts had been taken out of the hall, they were packed into wooden crates and containers by a packaging specialist for overseas transport.
