A PAINT SHOP IS STEEL CONSTRUCTION, VENTILATION AND CONVEYOR TECHNOLOGY ALL IN ONE

A paint shop consists of far more than spray booths. Steel structures and platforms carry the booths, drying ovens and air handling units, supply and exhaust air ducts connect everything, conveyor technology such as power & free, overhead conveyors or skid conveyors moves the car body from station to station, and painting robots work inside the booths. All of this has to be positioned precisely before the first paint flows.

This mechanical part is exactly what we install. As installation partner to major paint shop manufacturers, we have helped build paint shops – for a premium car manufacturer in Italy, in a commercial vehicle plant in northern Germany, in a car plant in southern Germany, in a vehicle plant in Austria and in three vehicle plants in the United Kingdom. For one paint shop manufacturer, we also assembled more than 100 different frames in our workshop in Rodgau and handed them over ready for shipping – for plants in Italy, Hungary and Africa. We know the automotive industry from the inside: Managing Director Tobias Schott trained at a major automotive supplier and later looked after the plant as a customer of Omega Mounting. For operators, we take on conversion, maintenance and repairs while the line is down: during a weekend shutdown, in the plant holidays, to plan.

Our role is the mechanical one: installing, aligning, fitting and removing steel structures, booths, drying ovens, ducts, fans, conveyors and robots, hosing up the paint supply and compressed air, and supporting commissioning on the mechanical side. Application technology, parameter setting, robot programming and process acceptance remain with the plant manufacturer.

FOUR REASONS WHY PLANT MANUFACTURERS AND OPERATORS CALL US IN

We have built paint shops from scratch

Not just maintained: we were there for the new build – steel structures, booths, drying ovens, conveyors, robots. Anyone who has built a plant from the inside finds their way around much faster during conversions and repairs.

An installation partner that fits in

As subcontractor to the plant manufacturer, we work to their installation plan, construction schedule and quality requirements – with our own crew, our own tools and our own supervisor instead of individual agency fitters.

Lifting and moving in by our own team

We lift fans, drying oven modules, robots and conveyor components ourselves: with a Lifting AP, lift plan, mini crane, gantry crane or machine skates – even where no forklift can reach in the finished hall.

German and English, at home and abroad

We have handled sites in Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom for German plant manufacturers. Coordination, safety documents and documentation are in German or English – depending on who is running the site.

WHAT WE INSTALL IN PAINT SHOPS

Six trades, one crew – for the plant manufacturer on new builds, and for the operator on conversions and maintenance.

Steel structures and platforms

Setting, aligning and bolting load-bearing steel structures, platforms, stairs and landings for booths, drying ovens and air handling units – to the plant manufacturer's installation plan.

Spray booths and drying ovens

Installing booth walls, ceilings and doors; moving in, setting and connecting drying oven modules. During conversions, we dismantle booth parts cleanly and rebuild them in their new position.

Supply and exhaust air, fans, ducts

Installing air handling units, fans and duct runs, replacing fans and bearings, removing and refitting motors. A 1.40 m process air fan including motor is a one-day job for us during a shutdown.

conveyor technology

Installing, aligning and maintaining power & free, overhead conveyors, skid and chain conveyors, lifting and turning stations – from the rail to the hanger.

Robots and hosing

Setting, aligning and bolting painting robots on pedestals and travel axes. Installing and hosing up colour changers, valve blocks and hose packages – neatly labelled to plan. Programming and teach-in are handled by the robot or plant supplier.

Commissioning and maintenance

Mechanical rework and punch list items through to acceptance, then maintenance and repairs in the shutdown window: bearings, chains, drives, dampers, doors and brackets.

THREE WAYS WE WORK ON PAINT SHOPS

For plant manufacturers and for operators – depending on whether the plant is being newly built, converted or is in operation.

New build

Installation partner to the plant manufacturer

The plant manufacturer plans and supplies, we build at the end customer's site: steel structures, booths, drying ovens, ducts, conveyors, robots. With our own crew, our own supervisor and installation progress that site management can see every day. On request, we pre-assemble frames and assemblies in our workshop in Rodgau and deliver them ready for shipping.

Conversion

Modernisation of existing plants

A new booth, a longer drying oven, additional conveyors or a robot replacement – usually within the tight time window of the plant holidays. Dismantling, relocation and reinstallation from one source, so that the line starts up again on time.

Maintenance

Repairs during shutdowns

Fan bearings, drives, conveyor chains, hangers, doors: whatever wears out in operation, we replace at weekends or at night. Preparation the day before, execution within the window, handover before the shift starts.

HOW A JOB ON A PAINT SHOP RUNS

01SITE VISIT & PLANNINGReview the plant manufacturer's installation plan, drawings and construction schedule or the operator's findings. Check routes, lifting points and openings for moving in, prepare the lift plan and RAMS.
02PREPARATIONProvide lifting equipment, rail systems and fixtures, pre-assemble components in our own workshop, tools and materials in the vehicle.
03INSTALLATIONSetting, aligning and bolting steel structures, booths, drying ovens, ducts, conveyors and robots – with a supervisor on site and daily progress reports to site management.
04COMMISSIONING & HANDOVERWork through mechanical punch list items, support the plant manufacturer's commissioning and hand over the documentation in German or English.

JOBS ON PAINT SHOPS AND CONVEYOR SYSTEMS

No marketing copy – documented jobs. The new-build projects for plant manufacturers are subject to confidentiality – we share references in a personal conversation.

PRE-ASSEMBLY IN OUR WORKSHOP

For one paint shop manufacturer, we assembled more than 100 different frames in our workshop in Rodgau: set up stainless steel frames, installed valve blocks, pumps and agitators, hosed them up and handed them over ready for shipping. From here they went to the plant manufacturer's sites in Italy, Hungary and Africa – on site, they only needed to be connected.

MAINTENANCE IN A RUNNING PLANT

For years, we looked after the plastics paint shop of an automotive supplier in the Offenbach area – the plant where Managing Director Tobias Schott did his apprenticeship. There we maintained chain conveyors, drive stations and conveyors in the drying oven, converted the conveyor technology, replaced fans and motors and installed the inspection zone with light tunnel – with our own crew, while the paint shop kept running. How the replacement of a 1.40 m process air fan went there is described in the project report on the fan bearing replacement.

PAINT SHOPS: ANSWERED DIRECTLY

Who do you install paint shops for?

For paint shop manufacturers, as installation partner during assembly at the end customer's site – and for operators who want their plant converted, extended or maintained. We have mainly worked in the car and commercial vehicle industry; suppliers and industrial companies with their own paint shop need the same trades.

Which parts of a paint shop do you install?

Steel structures and platforms, spray booths, drying oven modules, supply and exhaust air ducts, air handling units and fans, conveyor technology such as power & free, overhead conveyors and skid conveyors, painting robots and the hosing of the paint supply with colour changers and valve blocks. We set, align and bolt – and during conversions we remove and refit.

Do you program painting robots or set up the paint technology?

No. We install, remove and relocate robots mechanically. Programming, teach-in, application technology, parameter setting of the paint supply and process acceptance are handled by the plant or robot supplier, and the electrical installation by their qualified electrician.

Do you work abroad as well?

Yes. We have helped build paint shops in Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom for German plant manufacturers. Coordination, safety documents and documentation are in German or English; we plan jobs outside Germany on a project basis.

Do you carry out repairs during weekend shutdowns?

Yes, for operators that is the norm. On an automotive paint shop, we spent one day preparing and then, during the weekend shutdown, removed the 1.40 m fan including motor, replaced the bearing and refitted everything.

Do you name references?

We carried out the new-build projects as installation partner to plant manufacturers – which is why we do not publicly name end customers or clients. In a personal conversation, we show you which plants we have built and where.

Do you also pre-assemble components in your workshop?

Yes. For one paint shop manufacturer, we assembled more than 100 different frames in our workshop in Rodgau and handed them over ready for shipping – for plants in Italy, Hungary and Africa. On site, they then only needed to be set and aligned.
